Victory Against Police Xenophobia and Harassment of Immigrants

Yesterday, Wednesday 18th March, Congolese immigrant to South Africa and Coalition Against Xenophobia (CAX) activist and founding member Pastor Mulumba appeared for the second time at the Hillbrow Magistrates Court on charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. The more serious charge of attempting to steal a police firearm having been dropped at his previous appearance.

CAX launches Campaign Against Police Xenophobia and Harassment of Immigrants

Coalition Against Xenophobia to picket outside the Hillbrow Magistrates Court this Wednesday 25th February at 09h00 in support of our comrade Pastor Mulumba, being tried on bogus charges laid against him by xenophobic police.

BACKGROUND

Durban bails out xenophobia

Early in January, a Zimbabwean, Victor Zowa, and Omar Said from Tanzania, were murdered in the Durban City centre. The two immigrants were fleeing an armed mob who forced them to jump out a high-rise building. Another Zimbabwean, Eugene Madondo, survived the fall. Six people were arrested on the two counts of murder, for attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. These are all schedule 1 offences for which a magistrate should only grant bail in exceptional circumstances.

my greetings knows no borders" i really belive the same but now i was worried by being a member of a communist nation or a foreigner :while oppression is all the same even in the democratic nations as R.S.A i have concluded that there is no crime in south africa with out the help of officials whom supposed to prevent the foreigners right as their own .

Close Lindela Prison!

The Coalition Against Xenophobia is a broad coalition of civil society organisations, social movements and individuals who are committed to working against xenophobia and towards the improvement and transformation of our society.

The Coalition Against Xenophobia believes that the Lindela Repatriation Centre represents all that is wrong with Government's immigration policies. These policies are premised on the detection, detention and deportation of suspected illegal immigrants. They make the false assumption that immigrants to South Africa are not welcome here.

Launch of Road to Lindela

One highly respected South African leader once said, Refugees are foreigners who fled war and persecution. Their suffering is ours. Oppression one by another is wrong...
...But South Africa takes them to Lindela Repatriation Centre where they lose their lives and their dignity.

You are cordially invited to the book launch of the Creative Writers and Arts Workshop publication, Road to Lindela.

  • Thursday, 20 November 2008

Picket at Lindela

Sending solidarity greetings from London UK for the picket outide Lindela. Is there anything activists in South Africa would like activists in the UK to do in solidarity?

Hopefully there might be co-ordinated actions in future across the world against immigration prisons.

The following action is happening in London on Friday:
** Solidarity demo with migrants in Calais, outside the French Tourist Board,
300 High Holborn, London - this Friday 1-2pm **

In the last few weeks there has been an increasingly brutal repression of
migrants in Calais and the surrounding areas.
